Speech Intelligibility & Acoustical Testing
A long decay time or reverberation of sound in a space can benefit a choir or classical music, but can be detrimental to contemporary amplified music, speech understanding, video recording and noise control purposes.
Acoustical finishes are used to control reverberation. Recommendations for these finishes are based on the planned use of each space, budget, desired visual aesthetic and the desired reverberation frequency contour.
The acoustical isolation of walls, ceilings, floors, doors and windows determines the amount of speech privacy and amount of potential disturbance from adjacent spaces.
Recommendations are based on the type of noise source(s) to be isolated, the client's expectation for speech privacy and other concerns.
HVAC and other background noise can be distracting, cause fatigue, and reduce speech understanding.
Noise Criteria (NC) recommendations are provided for each space based on the planned use. Specialty details for acoustical isolation are provided as required for attenuation of these noise sources.
ASTM traceable, field measurements of reverberation time (RT60), partition isolation (NIC, field STC) and HVAC system background noise (NC level) are provided.
